Christmas Party Menu - 1982

As I wrote in the previous entry, my mother threw a dandy of a party at Christmas for some 40 years. Just came across a cross section of menus from 1979- 1998.

Here's what she served her guests in December of '82.
With cocktails
Anchovy Onion Triangles
Parmesan Twists
Nutted Rice Torta
Coconut Curry Balls
Feta Dip w/ wheat crackers and zucchini

At dinner
Paella
Kibbee
Cauliflower and Peas in Mushroom sauce
Winter Vegetable Salad in sesame dressing
Chutney Cherry Ring
Cottage cheese w/ carrot, pineapple and ginger
Devilled eggs, ripe olives and rolls

At dessert
English Trifle (a mainstay!)
Viennese Walnut Bars
Cheesecake Bars
Wine and Spice Cookies
Mince Pies

There were 12 guests at the party - a fairly common number for the annual event. Add to it cocktails, liquors and always champagne and you can imagine a rather delightful evening! Here they are singing a cute duet. This would have been in the after dinner portion of the evening when Mum could relax abit, have a drink and enjoy the company. And remember, this would have been a"busman's holiday" for my Dad as he would have come off 6 nights playing in the bar. The Party was always on Sunday nights so, come the Party, he'd play a full week!

Aren't they cute?

I miss them.
